Application Instructions

1) Attend an open house

Open Houses are information sessions which are held from mid-October through February.


School tours are scheduled to accommodate parents who have not had an opportunity to attend an Open House. Tours can be scheduled by emailing admissions@themidschool.org or by calling the school’s office at (301)567-9101. Parents are asked to arrange to come without their children. Children will have an opportunity to visit later in the application process.

2) Submit an application

Application Forms are accepted from September through February. The deadline for submitting applications is February 28, 2026. Each application should be accompanied by the $100 application fee which is payable by Visa, MasterCard, or check.

3) Schedule a classroom visit

All candidates for admission to MIDS must participate in a structured classroom evaluation. Students are required to attend class at MIDS for half a day and work along with current
MIDS students.

 

Teachers provide grade-level work and applicants are assessed based on their performance during the classroom visit. Classroom visits are conducted in January and February from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

4) Recommendations

Complete and submit the appropriate recommendation form. If the child has not attended pre-school or daycare, no recommendation is required.

5) Parent questionnaire

Parents can fax or e-mail their responses.

6) Evaluations, assessments, and standardized tests

MIDS may require additional information or parents may submit material to be included in considering their child for admission MIDS.

7) Parent interviews

Parents may be required to meet with the Head of School or a member of the admissions committee for an individual conference after submitting an application for admission.

8) Application decision

Receive a Decision Letter – mailed by March 30 for on-time applications
